The Great Feldberg
The Großer Feldberg is the highest mountain of the Taunus, north of Frankfurt. It rises to 879m above sea level. When the weather permits, it offers a beautiful panoramic view of Frankfurt's skyscrapers and its surrounding area.
In winter, the Feldberg is a great place for sledging. Skiing is also possible, but these are beginner slopes and in recent years the snow was not abundant enough to allow proper skiing... The rest of the year, the Feldberg is particularly appreciated for hiking and cycling, racing bikes and mountain bikes alike.
On the summit of the Feldberg there is a tower with panorama platform, a restaurant and a playground, and a communication tower. And just below, there is also a falconry.
- The communication tower was built in 1937 as a television tower, but it was used for military purposes during World War II. It was destroyed during this time and subsequently rebuilt in 1949.
- In the restaurant you can try culinary specialties of the region, for example the famous green sauce (grüne Soβe) while contemplating the scenery and views of Frankfurt.
